Cornel offers a comprehensive English program
for kindergarten students and for elementary students from grades one
to six. Both programs use an American curriculum. Our kindergarten program
introduces three to six year olds to fundamental English using games
and songs. They also enjoy weekly sessions in our modern CD-Rom computer
laboratory. The Yve's or elementary program is designed to meet the needs
of those who have completed our kindergarten program and have entered
Chinese elementary school. At this level English skills are reinforced
and built upon and more emphasis is placed on reading and writing than
in its pre-school counterpart. Added emphasis is placed on speaking.
The students range in age from six to fourteen. The American curriculum
for both programs is designed to meet the developmental and intellectual
needs of students at each level as well as offer oppurtunities for enrichment.
In our summer school program we offer special enrichment classes, that
includes science, drama, writing, art and music along with the regular program.
The same enrichment classes, plus public speaking and chess, are also
a part of our extra-curricula program during the school year.
Rainbow Time
|
Rainbow time is a program exclusive to Cornel and is designed to maximize
the exposure of our primary and elementary students to English through
stories and songs. Original stories, that are written and recorded in
our own studio, enhance listening interests through the use of diverse
voices, music and sound effects. The magazines and CDs that the Rainbow
Time studio produces monthly have been incorporated into the school's curriculum.
The popularity of this program has grown steadily since it was first
introduced mid 2002.
The Staff
|
Our staff
comes from a variety of backgrounds. This year we have teachers from
the USA, Canada, and South Africa. The faculty members share a common goal
of providing quality learning experiences for all students. All of our
teachers have a university degree or higher and most are certified teachers
or have teaching experience.
See the "Teachers Feedback" page
for letters and comments from teachers who have been a part of the Cornel
experience.
