Teachers needed to teach (in
English) in the beautiful city of Taichung, Taiwan.
Taiwan is a modern rapidly developing country,
known for its warm and friendly people. The opportunity to travel, and
the rewards of teaching eager and bright children are incomparable.
Who Is"Cornel"
Cornel Language School opened on November 7th 1989 with the first full
day English program in Taichung, Taiwan. Over the past sixteen years the
school has grown to include two campuses with an enrollment of almost
500 students in our kindergarten and Yve's (elementary) programs. We have
a teaching staff of 52 including 30 English teachers from Canada, the
United States and South Africa. Cornel has a fully functioning library
with over 10,000 books, magazines and periodicals and a studio that records
original English stories and songs. The magazines and CD's that are produced
on a monthly basis have been incorporated into the school's curriculum.
The Name "Cornel"
The name "CORNEL"was
adapted from Cornell University in the United States, where our school
principal, Bih Hua Chen studied, and her husband, Shyi-Dong received his
doctorate degree. An "l" was dropped in the spelling to differentiate
it from the American unviersity. "Cornel" has a special significance.
In English it refers to a berried plant, similar to a cherry blossom,
of the genus Cornus. The plant association is significant because it demonstrates
Cornel's attitude to our students - we view them as plants to nurture
to full fruition.
