| After completing my year at Cornel, I find that
overall I am very happy with my decision to
move to Taichung. As a recent college graduate,
Cornel was a great place for my first year of
teaching. I found that the staff was very easy to
work with and upon arriving, we quickly formed
friendships that I hope will continue after I
leave. I taught first grade, fifth grade, and a
graduate class and in each of these classes, I
was continually amazed at how quickly the
students were able to learn English. The
curriculum in the Yves¡¦ program is well written
and easy to understand, and it also allows for
flexibility, while offering opportunities for teacher
and student creativity.
As a trained history teacher, having lived in
Taiwan and experiencing the culture here will be
of great benefit not only to me, but for my future
students. There were numerous opportunities to
be exposed to the various cultural aspects of
Taiwan, along with learning about the history of
Taiwan. The travel opportunities were endless
and I¡¦m glad I took advantage of what was
presented before me. And, it was also fun!
When I look back on my year spent working at
Cornel, I will remember a group of hard-
working, dedicated teachers, who were open to
sharing ideas and eager to learn new methods
and techniques. Most importantly, I will
remember my first group of students, who
taught me just as much (maybe more!) as I
taught them.
All the best,
Sabrina Ehmke
